Best Time to Visit

Chopta has two perfect seasons.

April — June

Spring & Summer

The meadows are green, rhododendrons bloom in crimson and pink. Clear skies, comfortable temperatures. The best window for the Chandrashila trek. Ideal for beginners and families.

July — August

Monsoon

Heavy rainfall makes trails slippery and visibility poor. The region is lush and dramatic but trekking is not recommended. Landslides can affect road access. Best avoided for safety.

September — November

Autumn

Post-monsoon clarity. The skies are the clearest they'll be all year. Snow begins to dust the higher peaks. Crisp air, golden light, and the best summit views. Many consider this the finest season.

How difficult is the Chopta-Chandrashila trek?

The trek is rated Easy to Moderate and is suitable for beginners and families. The trail from Chopta to Tungnath (3.5 km) is a well-marked path through forests. The stretch from Tungnath to Chandrashila summit (1.5 km) is steeper but manageable. Total distance is about 5-6 km one way. No prior trekking experience required, but basic fitness is recommended.

When is the best time to visit?

The best seasons are April to June (spring/summer) and September to November (autumn). Spring brings rhododendron blooms and green meadows. Autumn offers the clearest skies and best summit views. July-August is monsoon season and not recommended due to heavy rainfall and slippery trails. December to March brings heavy snowfall and the trek may be inaccessible.

What is included in the stay?

Your stay includes comfortable room accommodation with daily housekeeping and breakfast. The camp also offers bonfire in the evenings, garden access, outdoor seating, parking, and a car booking service. The camp is couple friendly and suitable for families.

How do I reach Chopta?

Should I worry about altitude sickness?

The camp at Chopta sits at about 2,600m. The highest point on the trek, Chandrashila summit, is at 4,000m. Altitude sickness is possible but uncommon on this trek due to the gradual ascent. Stay hydrated, avoid alcohol the night before your trek, ascend slowly, and listen to your body. If you experience severe headache, nausea, or dizziness, descend immediately. No special acclimatization is typically needed for this trek.

What should I pack?

Layered clothing (temperatures can drop significantly at altitude), sturdy trekking shoes with good grip, a warm jacket or fleece, rain gear (especially in September-October), sunscreen, water bottle, sunglasses, a small daypack, and any personal medications. The camp provides bedding and basic amenities.
